About 6 North
Construction is proceeding on 6North. We still anticipate opening the 20-bed unit in early February, 2019 on the St.Joseph Campus.
We are seeking pioneers who are interested in strengthening our nursing practice by working in a primary nursing model. In this model, you will provide all care including assessments, medications and treatment planning for your patients. Alongside some teamwork, this shift allows for nursing to be out on the floor with patients more, leading care in ways that can help our patients best. We are beginning to shift our nursing care model on 6 North to primary nursing because we believe it provides a more consistent, knowledgeable way to know your patients and move their care.
We are opening 6N to help move as many BH patients to Copestone as is possible, getting patients out of the ED/PEA's more quickly and into deeper levels of treatment earlier, and hopefully lessening the burden on B3 South. A reminder that we expect that our 5S patients will be the patient population we serve on 6North and that we will be transitioning 5S to a dual diagnosis type of unit.
Our plan in opening 6 North is to evaluate internal staff applicants first, and hire a balance of internal Copestone, Mission and external applicants for the staff. We likely will open a cohort of patient beds at a time to ensure we have processes and systems stable enough to take on the next census levels (likely 5 patients, then 10, 15, until full at 20). Our plan at this point is to try to hire approximately 50% of the staff as soon as possible, so some of them can fill current 5th floor openings until 6th North is open, and then continue to hire until full.
