  1. Minimum of six years' experience in the custodial field, with at least three years as a Head Custodian, or major custodial supervisory position.
  2. Minimum of a High School Diploma.
  3. Minimum of at least one year of purchasing experience.
  4. Ability to work with staff, students and the public.
  5. Physically capable of performing assigned tasks.
  6. Mechanical aptitude.
  7. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  8. Knowledge of custodial procedures and equipment.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goals:

To assist the Director of District Operations in the custodial-maintenance sector of the District, ensuring clean and presentable buildings and surroundings so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. May serve simultaneously as Head Custodian within the district as part of the job responsibilities.
  2. Interviews and recommends hiring of all full-time, part-time and substitute custodial personnel, subject to the approval of the Director of District Operations and the Board of Trustees.
  3. Requests bids, and makes purchases of all custodial supplies, in conjunction with the Director of Plant Facilities/Purchasing.
  4. Selects the custodial supplies and equipment to be used, and maintains an appropriate inventory of them.
  5. Conducts meetings of the custodial staff when it is deemed necessary for purposes of training or morale.
  6. Performs performance evaluations of all Head Custodians regularly, under the direction of the Director of District Operations, and recommends payroll changes on the Salary Schedule, or corrective action, for Head Custodians. Also assists Head Custodian with personnel evaluations, payroll change, and corrective actions of employees that they direct.
  7. Ensures all custodial personnel are property trained and conducts regular custodial training seminars.
  8. Works with the Director of District Operations on the supply budget, and ensures that it is timely prepared, and adequately reflects the needs of the custodial area.
  9. Functions as the foremost authority in the District on correct custodial procedures, and the proper use of custodial products.
  10. Confers with principals regarding custodial work.
  11. Completes annual evaluations on custodial staff in accordance with Board policy.
  12. May provide suggestions for new construction, and works with the Director of District Operations and others as requested.
  13. Assists the Director of District Operations, as requested, in building and surroundings inspections.
  14. Arranges for the distribution of all supplies to the Head Custodian, and/or personnel in charge of using the supplies.
  15. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  16. Has regular and predictable attendance.
