Job Title: Director Throughput Bed Management (RN)

Wesley Medical Center, located in Wichita, Kansas, is an acute-care center licensed for 760 beds and 102 bassinets. The medical staff of 900 physicians and 3,000 employees provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for patients from throughout Kansas and northern Oklahoma. Every year, more than 25,000 adults and children are inpatients and more than 6,000 babies are born at Wesley. The Center was founded in 1912 by the Methodist Church, but has been part of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) since 1985.

Position Summary:

The Bed Throughput Director RN provides direction and oversight for efficient patient flow and appropriate patient placement meeting both facility and corporate targets. Proactive in anticipating priority for admissions, transfers, and discharges and anticipates potentials for bottlenecks in patient flow and intervenes proactively. Collaborates with all involved disciplines to expedite patient flow; Oversees and coordinates bed assignments from all points of entry; Conducts frequent rounds throughout the medical center to identify actual and potential bed availability. Actively participates and contributes to organizational initiatives that impact patient flow. Support continuous performance and quality improvement. Communicates openly with appropriate leadership team to ensure hospital wide knowledge of key decision factors. Performs additional duties as assigned.


Position Requirements:

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current license as a registered Nurse to practice in the State Kansas

Education: BSN preferred or equivalent work and progressive clinical and leadership training.

Experience: Experience in acute care setting with diverse clinical experiences. Management/Leadership experience in an acute hospital setting preferred Customer Service: required to be highly skilled in interpersonal effectiveness.

Special qualifications: Demonstrates ability to manage multiple and continually changing priorities, and make rapid
decisions. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skill and ability to handle conflict and reach consensus and collaboration. Must have computer experience and proficiency in a wide variety of software (Microsoft Office applications, database management) Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities.
Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer.

Degree of Supervision Required: Able to function independently with minimal degree of supervision.
