Surgical Services Periop 101 Fellowship

The OR is very different from most nursing environments, and many nursing school programs do not include surgery in the curriculum. Leadership at Mission Health has taken a pro-active approach by bringing in strong nurse-candidates to become educated in operating room nursing. Our Periop Fellows are all nurses new to the operating room, but not necessarily new to nursing.

The Periop 101 Program is a two year commitment with a 6 month training program to include 12 weeks of didactics and 12 weeks of clinicals.

Job Summary: Provides leadership which facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of patients. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family. Implements medically prescribed interventions.

Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Nurses with an Associate Degree or Diploma in nursing must sign agreement to obtain BSN within 4 years of the hire date in to position. Nurses who are nearing the end of their professional career may be exempted from this requirement with CNO System Council approval.

Preferred Education: None

Required License: Must have and maintain current licensure as registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Compact license may apply, licensee should confirm with NCBON; BCLS

Preferred License: National Certification in area

Required Experience: No experience

Preferred Experience: One-year hospital experience
