Job Summary:

General Pharmacy Technician II Duties:

Supports the department by accurately preparing medications for patient dispensing, maintaining appropriate records to assure adherence to regulations, and to provide accurate financial accountability. Provides excellent customer service by helping to maintain an organized and efficient workflow in the pharmacy and consistently demonstrating MERIT standards of performance.

Controlled Substance Technician Duties:
  • Oversight of all aspects of the hospital's controlled substance distribution system:
    • Ensures correct counts of all controlled substances are maintained.
    • Accurately pulls/ verifies controlled medications for delivery to ADC and ancillary units.
    • Receives controlled substance order into CII safe, verifying invoice information and ensuring each medication has readable barcode.
    • Ensures all expired medications are removed from circulation and quarantined in appropriate area to await return or destruction.
    • Conducts monthly inventory of CII Safe. Verifies daily inventory of designated high-risk non-ADC (automated dispensing cabinet, such as Pyxis) areas.
    • Performs all other duties as required to maintain compliance with state and federal controlled substance regulations

Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education: Associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology

Required License:Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire AND Active status as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (as credentialed by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board)

Preferred License: None

Required Experience: At least 1 year of pharmacy technician experience or completion of an Associate's Degree in Pharmacy Technology

Preferred Experience: At least 4 years of pharmacy technician experience
