Job Description


Job Summary: Coordinates and schedules multidisciplinary patient appointments for over 30 clinical departments within the hospital system, including imaging services, procedural services, and physician office visits. Responsibilities including identifying patient insurance coverage to bill for the procedure or appointment requests, updating patient's demographic information at time of scheduling. The coordinator maintains a close working relationship with physician offices and hospital/ambulatory clinical team leaders and clinical directors to accomplish the desired end results in accordance with established procedures. Evaluates clinical information obtained to determine the correct procedure(s) and ensures instruments, equipment, and resources are properly accounted for. Also, disseminates the appropriate pre-visit preparation instructions according to scheduled procedure. Uses ICD-10 and CPT codes to determine medical necessity, based on external hospital regulatory agency guidelines

Required Education: High school diploma or GED

Preferred Education: Completion of courses in medical terminology and basic anatomy.

Required License: None

Preferred License: None

Required Experience: Six months in a medical setting with strong emphasis on using and spelling medical terms. Must have strong computer skills with ability to type with moderate speed and maintain accuracy. Must possess excellent customer service and phone skills.

Preferred Experience: Two years in a hospital or medical office scheduling clinical procedures using scheduling software. Course in medical terminology. Customer Service background in a call center.
