SUMMARY

This is a high visibility position within the company that requires a detail oriented team player with a positive attitude. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for the quality testing of all ISO, and EPS products manufactured. The Quality Control Technician is also responsible for conducting routine quality control tests on incoming raw materials and premix batches, for preparing ISO run sheets that take into account variables associated with the polyol and MDI and for assisting with ISO production runs in particular to monitor production variables and when more experienced to adjust production settings to maintain control over the process.

Must be an experienced forklift operator and can use a measuring tape.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Safety is demonstrated through daily safe operation of laboratory and production equipment, wearing the required PPE for the job and adherence to all site Safety policies. Active and enthusiastic participation in site safety programs and other safety initiatives is expected.

Security involves following all site Safety policies, protecting highly confidential product formulations and properly maintaining confidential information received from suppliers and other outside parties.

No significant coaching/development activities are required. However, the incumbent may be asked to assist with the training of other employees in laboratory practices and should proactively share experiences from previous jobs/roles that help to improve lab efficiency, safety, and overall operations.

The major activities/responsibilities associated with this job are as follows:

1) Maintain a safe work environment, complying with safety policies and procedures. Follow safe work practices for personal, equipment and team member safety -- in all areas of the site. End results are a minimum of safety incidents and a clean, orderly working environment.

2) Follow established quality control procedures contained in the QC Manual to perform physical testing on all the company's products. End results are the ability to obtain accurate QC data and the ability to identify when a test parameter is outside the normal range. In such instances, these deficiencies must be brought to the attention of senior personnel. The incumbent is also responsible for accurately entering all the test results on the Production Server.

3) Perform routine quality control testing of incoming raw materials and premix batches. This involves being familiar with the hazards associated with all the chemicals used in the facility and having a thorough working knowledge of the analytical equipment used in the QC laboratory. The incumbent will also be responsible for preparing the chemical blends needed for measuring foam reactivity and preparing the foam based on the correct mixing of the chemicals. Once again the end results are the ability to obtain accurate QC data as well as having a knowledge of the expected typical values.

4) Assist with ISO production in particular to monitor process variables during production runs. On occasion the incumbent will also be required to prepare large scale premix batches. End results are familiarity with all the production variables and the ability to recognize when production parameters are outside normal ranges. Individuals having more experience are also responsible for preparing run sheets that take account of lot to lot differences associated with the polyol and MDI and for taking the initiative during production runs to adjust production settings to maintain control of the process.

5) A more experienced QC Technicians is responsible for conducting laboratory investigations in order to develop new products, product improvements or process improvements. The incumbent is also responsible for accurately entering all the test results on the Production Server. In this case end results are the ability to perform the work highly accurately and the ability to recognize and communicate to the QC Supervisor or Vice President, Technology when results are outside normal boundaries.
