The director provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the care provided for patients. Responsibilities include fiscal, human resource, and operational functions. This position also focuses on staff education and competency, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives, with an emphasis on patient safety activities and HCAHPS performance. Maintains 24 hour accountability for departmental operations.
I. Position Requirements:
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Colorado. Current BLS certification.
B. Education:

Graduate of a certified school of nursing - BSN required

Masters in nursing or related field preferred.


Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in a critical care area required.

Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role required.
C. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the practice of nursing process. Demonstrates the ability to plan and provide for delivery of nursing services. Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people and to maintain constructive relationships in dealing with them. Ability to communicate effective orally and in writing. Participates in counseling and guidance of personnel. Acts as a representative of administration for patient care. Ability to assume twenty-four hour responsibility for integration of interpersonal aspects in all patient care. Ability to assume leadership role with the health team in planning and delivery of patient care. Recognized personal responsibility in striving for innovative health care delivery which meets contemporary needs and assumes leadership in negotiating for changes in health care.

III. Degree of Supervision Required:

None. Individual proceeds on his/her own initiative, in compliance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and practices of SRMC. Collaborates/coordinates with Vice President of Patient Care/Chief Nursing Officer.

IV. Orientation Period:

Minimum of two weeks, contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by the VP/ Patient Care Services / Chief Nursing Officer.

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
BSN required

Minimum 3-5 years in Critical Care required
Minimum 3-5 years RN management preferred

Bachelor's Degree
