Job Description:

The Behavioral Health Technician performs specific non-licensed or non-professional duties of patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Provides direct patient care while effectively and therapeutically interacting with adult and geriatric patients, significant others and other health care team members while delivering care to an assigned group of patients under supervision. The Behavioral Health Technician adheres to regulatory and patient care standards related to the delivery of patient care.

Job Responsibilities Include but are not Limited to:

  • Work performed evidences completion of all tasks related to the patient's activities of daily living (ADL's) such as elimination, hydration, nutrition, hygiene and cleanliness of the patient room.
  • The Behavioral Health Technician monitors vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and intake and output as directed by the Registered Nurse and communicates findings and changes to the Registered Nurse.
  • Records patient information accurately and timely in all automated patient care systems and on other documentation tools and forms.
  • Conducts visitor screenings including belongings check.
  • Completes patient body and belonging checks upon admission and records information as per departmental policies and procedures
  • Consistently completes Q15 minutes patient safety rounds and communicates findings and changes to the Registered Nurse.
  • consistently identifies and accurately communicates patient safety information such as known allergies, history of falls, risk for skin breakdown, risk of injury to self or others, and other key information to promote a safe environment.
  • Responds to psychiatric emergencies throughout the hospital.


Required Job Qualifications Include:
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent required
  • Associates/Technical Degree preferred
  • 0-2 years psychiatric experience preferred
  • BCLS certification
  • CBHT Certification
