Job Summary
The AVP Enterprise Architecture is a Senior IS Executive accountable for providing top-level leadership and direction on technology strategy plans for Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS) technology environment, including the technical architecture, acquisition, design, and deployment of complex, integrated and standardized IS solutions to satisfy clinical and business functional requirements. 
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), t he AVP Enterprise Architecture is responsible for providing strategic technical direction on the solution architecture designs and systems engineering for infrastructure solutions.  Serves as an internal technical consultant on clinical, corporate, mHealth and data analytical technology initiatives.  This individual will provide industry leadership on key design decisions, while carefully weighing TCO and timeline/risk impacts on the organization. 
Essential Functions 
Enterprise Architecture 
  • Defines the IT strategic vision from a technological point of view and ensure alignment with the overall business strategy of the Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS).
  • Provide executive-level leadership and guidance on technology plans for the Carolinas HealthCare System computing environment, including the architecture, acquisition, design, and development of complex, integrated and standardized IT solutions to support business functional requirements.
  • Collaborates closely with senior business leaders to understand their business priorities, and then proactively determines how technology can be best applied and leveraged to enable new business models and service lines, to improve the coordination of care across settings & continuum of care.
  • Along with key enterprise IT decision makers & team members, business leaders, clinicians and external partners devises the CHS IT technology framework, technology procedures and practices of the organization.
  • Ensures that the appropriate policies and structure for managing underlying IT infrastructure, which comprises all CHS compute, network, telephony, data center, Internet and technology capabilities are in place and optimized for maximum business benefit to the system.
  • Brokers and manages key relationships with strategic IT vendors and suppliers, data center partners, and outsource firms to procure and manage IT assets and ensure the efficient running of the IT infrastructure.
  • Define the infrastructure architecture and underlying technology components for the system portfolio for Carolinas HealthCare System
  • Inform and advise business sponsors and their staff on strategic and operational opportunities for improvement and develop roadmaps that illustrate feasible approaches to achieve them.
  • In partnership with the Architects and Service Owners participate in the identification of IT services and ensure service levels are monitored and reported. 
  • Oversee the development of the IT service catalogue, asset database and IT knowledge base to ensure that information is accurate & available to identified stakeholders. 
  • Organizes and drives advanced technology innovation, competitive analysis, technology assessment, and prototype lab functions
  • Execute and improve a light‐weight architectural governance model to ensure that architecturally impactful decisions are kept during the course of project implementation.
Strategy & Financial Planning 
  • Maintain an understanding of Carolinas HealthCare System enterprise direction and technology environment.  
  • Provide IS Executive Leadership in the development of the Technology & Operations  strategic plan and roadmap. 
  • Create and maintain the Enterprise Architecture team budget and manage costs to appropriate levels.  
  • Collect, analyze and report on Enteprise Architecture team performance and maintain continuous improvement of processes and service delivery.  
  • Assess and direct the current maintenance landscape for technology and operations focusing on the continuous improvement of services.  
People & Resource Management 
  • Work closely with the CTO to define the organizational structure for the Infrastructure Operations and Support team including establishing roles and responsibilities and planning and tracking the usage of staff & contract resources.  
  • Manage talent within the Enterprise Architecture team, by identifying key personnel, evaluating job performance and providing learning and development opportunities to maintain the skills and competencies of staff.  
  • Drive organizational awareness by communicating management objectives and direction, and continuously fostering an innovative, knowledge sharing culture.  
  • Lead organizational change management by establishing and communicating the change vision, and empowering change teams and staff throughout the change.  
  Physical Requirements

Work environment is subject to high-level visibility through verbal and written communications with senior hospital management, resource planning decisions, associated project deadlines, personnel evaluation and counseling. Must be able to lift objects that weigh up to 35 pounds. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.   10+ years of previous IS Executive experience managing operations services, teams & vendors. 12+ years of experience in IT Service Management and Service Operations.  ITIL Expert Certification strongly preferred. Proven record of ITIL process implementation and continuous improvement. Strong technical knowledge of key platform technologies and infrastructure, including cloud, WAN, telephony, storage, servers and desktops. Experience in quality and performance management an asset.  Ability to quickly and creatively analyze and provide solutions to complex challenges. Familiarity with healthcare industry drivers such as Affordable Care Act, Population Health, and Meaningful Use Stages would be considered an asset. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
