Job Summary
This role of AVP Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer will be located at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, NC. St. Luke's is a Critical Access Hospital and is part of Carolinas HealthCare System.
The AVP Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for organizing, planning, directing and evaluating all nursing functions and other patient care areas (e.g., emergency medicine, outpatient ambulatory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation and respiratory care services). Recommends and implements policies and procedures to improve efficiency and delivery of quality patient care. 
The position will report to the hospital Chief Executive Officer.
Additionally, the AVP Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer plans, manages, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical and administrative activities for the department of nursing and the administrative activities for other clinical and non-clinical areas. Directs and develops hospital wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that assure high quality patient care. 

Essential Functions
  • Accountable for directing all operations of Patient Services at St. Luke's Hospital, including the Emergency Department, Outpatient Ambulatory Services, Intensive Care Unites, Medical/Surgical Units, Telemetry, Surgical Service and Behavioral Health Services.
  • Recommends and implements policies and procedures to improve efficiency and delivery of quality patient care.
  • Plans, manages, coordinates and evaluates the clinical and administrative activities for the department of nursing and the administrative activities for the department of nursing and the administrative activities for other clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Establishes a strong collaborative relationship with medical staff to achieve and encourage active participation from all staff members and create a working environment that will encourage retention of clinical employees.
  • Ensures that a clear understanding of health care guidelines is recognized at all times once a patient is in the care of St. Luke's Hospital, by a constant review and supervision of the medical practitioners in practice.
  • Promotes a strategic vision for nursing services that is consistent with and supports the mission, vision, and values of St. Luke's Hospital.
  • Provides leadership accountability and support for clinical staff and medical staff professional development and continuing medical education.
  • Leads the St. Luke's Hospital and St. Luke's Physician Network Patient Experience Excellence initiatives, including coordination of all leadership engagement and accountabilities for high standards of Patient Experience results.
  • Encourages innovation of the staff for the betterment of the welfare of the patients and the organization as a whole.

Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, and sitting. Works in an office environment. Intact sense of sight and hearing. Must be able to lift 10 pounds of weight. Must be able to respond quickly in stressful situations. Must speak English in good, understandable terms. Requires critical thinking and ability to concentrate.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
MSN required. If undergraduate degree is BSN a Masters Degree from a health related program or MBA is acceptable. Must have MSN if undergraduate degree is not BSN.
Appropriate professional leadership certification required (within 2 years if not currently certified) or within 1 year of eligibility for professional certification.
Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse in state of North Carolina.
7 years of progressive experience in clinical, management and leadership roles within hospital operations.
Knowledgeable of current leadership, management and quality improvement concepts and the ability to participate in developing and implementing organizational strategies to address opportunities to improve the delivery of patient / nursing care.
