Job Summary
Directs and performs standard laboratory procedures. Assists physician or pathologist in diagnosis and patient care in a clinic/outpatient environment. Operates equipment to make qualitative and quantitative analyses of specimens. Recognizes abnormal trends or results and makes required decisions and corrections.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in revision of section procedures, implementation of accreditation and inspection standards in conjunction with operating procedures.
  • Performs procedures using established methodologies.
  • Ensures that patient billing is accurate.
  • Recognizes deviations from expected results and determine appropriate actions.
  • Completes required daily procedures and checks.
  • Maintains equipment and working area, and inventories and stock.
  • Performs calculations, makes corrections, and documents actions.
  • Analyzes and reports test results in a timely manner.
  • Serves as lead tech when requested.
  • Follows established general safety procedures and utilizes PPE appropriately.
Physical Requirements
Moderate physical effort in bending, stooping, reaching, twisting and stair climbing. Lifting, pulling or pushing of moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). In an 8 hour day must be able to sit intermittently for 2 hours, stand for 5 hours, and walk for one hour. Routinely required to exercise motor skills requiring manual dexterity. Must be able to perform job accurately under pressure. Must be able to look into a microscope for sustained periods of time and be able to distinguish a full spectrum of colors. Potential contact with blood or other infectious materials.

Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of accredited program in Medical Laboratory Technology required. Must have passed or be eligible to take ASCP certification, within 1 year period. HEW license, MT (AMT).
