The Director, Facilities Management i s a qualified individual with general knowledge of all applicable hospital building codes and licensure requirements (NFPA, VA State Code, BOCA National Codes); and OSHA, EPA, JCAHO and other National and State regulatory rules and regulations.
  • Capable of writing equipment or construction specifications as required to meet the needs of the hospital or the department.
  • Able to analyze problem situations and draw conclusions and develop plans of attack for problem solving.
  • Will provide oversight over other ancillary/support departments such as Security, and PBX/Communications, and serve as the facility Safety Officer.
  • Develop and maintain current preventive maintenance programs to maintain the buildings, equipment, alarm systems, grounds, and building support system to ensure that the maximum time of service is received from the buildings and grounds.
  • Supervises the maintenance personnel so as to obtain optimal productivity consistent with an acceptable level of employee morale.
  • Assists with training of new personnel; develops in-service training for maintenance employees
  • Responsible for staff evaluations and performance improvement plans
  • Is subject to emergency call.
  • Assigns duties to subordinates; manages staff tasks through Clixphix work order system
  • Performs other duties as required by the CEO or COO/VP.
  • Serves as liaison with outside consultant services and contractors for design, construction, mechanical, and engineering as required for present or future needs.
  • Serves as a member of the hospital's committees: Department Head, Safety Committee, Emergency Preparedness, and other committees as assigned.
  • Supervises the servicing of mechanical equipment systems.
  • Maintains proper functioning and operation of control systems, alarms, and fire detection systems.
  • Establishes departmental procedures.
  • Assists with design of building systems and equipment; assists with code compliance of same, develops drawings, etc.
  • Assists with the supervision of hospital construction projects.


  • AA/AS in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and 5 years experience in project management in these fields preferred.

Training and Experience:
  • Must have at least 5 years managerial, planning, and systems analysis management experience with clerical organizational skill knowledge.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of and expertise complying with regulatory complex requirements of healthcare facilities.
  • Acute care hospital experience preferred.

Should have:

ü Knowledge of hospital construction and building systems.

ü General knowledge of hospital operations.

ü Working knowledge of crafts and trades.

ü Ability to read and understand specifications and blueprints.

ü Ability to effectively supervise and interact with personnel.

Special Skills and Qualifications :
  • Verbal and written command of the English language.
  • Ability to read and write clear, concise and complete reports and applicable paperwork.
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Professional demeanor and approach to duties.

ASHE Membership, and CHFM certification preferred; or must have ability to obtain. Must also have the ability to obtain CHSP for Safety Officer function.
