Job Summary:
The Director of Outpatient Brain and Spine Services is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of relationships with physicians including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuro oncology, Neuro Radiology, Interventional Neuro Radiology, and Psychiatric/Psychology specialties, as well as referral providers such as Primary Care Physicians. The Director is the point person to strategically grow the Brain and Spine service line outpatient market through planning, partnership and business development. Promotes growth and maintenance of superior quality, cost competitiveness and containment, evidence based practice, technology, efficiencies, and supply utilization. The Director is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations as well as developing the strategy for the programs. Key areas of focus include identification and resolution of important operational and/or clinical service delivery concerns, especially those that cross multiple departments and service areas, oversight of all aspects of the programs including development and execution of operational and strategic plans to support the growth and development of the programs and clinical and financial oversight for the programs, including performance improvement initiatives in areas such as revenue, cost, quality outcomes, and culture (patient, physician, and employee experience). Responsible for leadership and collaboration with the related Medical Directors to identify annual accountabilities, goals and objectives for the programs. Monitors, plans and executes initiatives relative to facility, technology and staff needs for the program based on current and future demand. Directly responsible for staff and indirectly responsible for influencing staff throughout the Florida Hospital (FH) system. Manages all activities involving continuum of outpatient services. This is a system wide role for all ambulatory/outpatient neuroscience programs. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
  • Knowledge of healthcare as well as current and future healthcare trend
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor message to individuals and audiences throughout the institution.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to focus detailed concentrated effort to multiple projects and re-establish priorities as necessary. Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of strategy, and business plan development and paths to implementation.
  • Attention to detail that ensures follow through on all initiatives implemented, and all projects undertaken.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access).
  • Financial management and budgeting expertise
  • Ability to collaborative with leaders of other departments when addressing clinical practice, quality improvement, operational and planning issues concerning service lines.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, or related area
  • Master's degree in business, health administration, or related area (Preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years' healthcare management experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' healthcare experience
  • Project management experience (Preferred)
  • Program administration or development experience (Preferred)
  • Financial management experience (Preferred)

  • SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: • Oversees the clinical operations as well as the developing the strategy for Outpatient outreach and clinical programs; and programs that are key to the Brain and Spine service lines, such as Epilepsy, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), Sleep, and Neurological related programs. • Creates an effective working environment where communication, professional development and quality are always encouraged. Creates action plans to achieve positive outcomes. • Communicates regularly with stakeholders from staff to referral providers and peers as well as the AVP of Neurosciences on status of outpatient services on meeting the needs for outpatient programs. • Performs additional duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  • OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: • Ensures that all departments within scope of practice operate within allocated budget. • Implements appropriate tracking systems for success measures and reports on these as required. • Prepares, executes and monitors operating budgets to ensure appropriate staffing, professional development, space, supplies, equipment, etc., for maintaining and improving quality of service and performance standards as applicable within scope of responsibility. • Analyzes data from all inputs that relate to quality, cost, and care coordination and prepare comprehensive reports and updates for the AVP of the Cardiovascular Institute as pertains to outpatient services
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY: • Develops and implements initiatives, processes, and systems, and creates goals that align with organizational and operational strategies, supporting organizational initiatives. • Utilizes organizational databases, decision support, and expert systems programs to access information and analyze data from various sources for use in planning and development of processes and systems supporting scope of practice. • Encourage business growth and development by actively seeking out new opportunities to increase referrals, and market share. Work with marketing to create materials that represent the Neuroscience Institute and its service lines. Actively develop referral streams for outpatient services
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: • Acts as a change agent, utilizing change theory to plan for the implementation of organizational change. Participates in and leads various committee. • Develops action plans; leads and supports practice/process changes, performance improvement activities, etc. Supports staff during change and adapts leadership style to the situation. • Develops dashboards and feedback mechanisms that ensure transparency and open communication of data. • Monitors relevant outcomes to ensure that services are provided at a level appropriate for all stakeholders.
  • COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY: • Coordinates efforts to promote and provides information on the CREATION Health philosophy to the leaders and employees working in assigned departments. • Ensures that the programs offered within scope of responsibility, and as applicable, are properly communicated in the community.
  • STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: • Participates in workforce planning and employment decisions, champions a diverse workforce, interprets and evaluates employee satisfaction and quality of work surveys, taking action as needed to ensure a positive outcome. • Identifies employment requirements, functions, tasks and job specifications for positions within reporting structure rollup. Assesses job candidates' skills and experience, and selects top talent in accordance with needs.
