Job Description

The Assistant Chaplain is a minister that provides care to primary customers, team members and partners. Participates as a member of the team in evaluating and providing appropriate interventions to meet the spiritual needs of students, faculty and staff. Fosters a sense of mission that enhances a culture of trust, an experience of belonging, and a future of hope within the University. Assists the Lead Campus Chaplain and Associate Chaplain. Builds relationships with students to foster spiritual and personal growth, mentors Campus Ministry leaders, helps plan and lead worship programs and supports the dorm ministry. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in fostering and maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Personal commitment to God Emotional stability, sound physical health, and an ability to work under stress Ability to work well in a team environment Ability to effectively relate to persons of diverse religious, educational and cultural backgrounds Ability to earn respect of University team members Demonstrates servant leadership and a desire to empower others EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor~s Degree in Theology, Religion or other higher e ducation degree 1 year of youth ministry or campus ministry experience LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: N/A PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates behaviors at Adventist University of Health Sciences in harmony with the Four Words Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship. Assess the spiritual needs of students and provides appropriate interventions with consideration to growth development needs and age group. Receives referrals from all members of the University team, and works with Chaplain team to follow up on referrals within 24 hours. Responsible for working with Associate Chaplain to supervise Fright night worship services during the trimester while classes are in session. Communicates regularly with Lead Chaplain and Campus Ministries Office concerning work hours and job-related needs or concerns. Maintains strict confidentiality concerning information discussed or records shared that involve students, faculty , staff, and partners. Participates in required training, regular leadership discussions, and other opportunities as assigned by the Lead Chaplain. Preaches and Teaches worship services, devotionals and other areas as requested by Lead Chaplain. Coordinates response to campus emergencies and ministry needs related to students in crisis, as well as faculty and staff with Lead Chaplain and Associate Chaplain.
