EKG Technician - Cardiovascular Services - Altamonte Springs - Per Diem

Department Profile:
Florida Hospital Altamonte is the choice for Seminole County residents who seek sophisticated diagnostic and treatment procedures. The Cath Lab offers the latest in interventional radiology procedures for fast and more reliable diagnostic results. We offer the comprehensive array of cardiac and neurodiagnostic services that include: Cardiac Rehabilitation, Cardiovascular Ultrasound, Electrocardiogram, Cardiac Cath Lab, Nuclear Imaging, Stress Laboratory Services, and Vascular Center.

Work Hours/Shifts:
M-F 2:30pm-11pm or 6am-2:30pm

Job Summary:
Actively participates in outstanding customer service, and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The EKG 2 independently performs diagnostic quality ECGs, SAECG, and Holter monitor hook-ups. Must recognize and alert appropriate personnel to lethal arrhythmias and unstable hemodynamics. Processes Holter data and assists with physician billing and staff scheduling. Assists in the Stress lab where campus scheduling allows. Demonstrates scheduling flexibility and is compliant with special requests as situations dictate. A four-week notice is required for resignations, transfer, and any change in employment status resulting in decreased working hours.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
  • Ability to read, write legibly and perform basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Computer knowledge and skills
  • Experience performing ECGs in a hospital setting
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (Preferred)
  • Experience assisting in stress testing (Preferred)
  • Experience with Philips and/or Mortara ECG machines (Preferred)
  • Experience with Cerner Electronic Medical Records (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms
  • Positions and applies electrodes in proper location
  • Identifies and corrects for wandering, interference, and artifact
  • Appropriate application of Holter Monitors
  • Obtains all necessary information for proper interpretation
  • Effective and Efficient Care:
  • Independently performs diagnostic ECG testing
  • Manages unmatched list in a timely manner
  • Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to all patient orders
  • Manages time and equipment effectively
  • Maintains patient confidentiality as required by HIPAA
  • Assessment:
  • Identifies patients using by using the 2 FH acceptable identifiers, name and date of birth
  • Communicates abnormal findings to the nurse and or physician in a timely manner
  • Ensures that an order or a prescription is present for the EKG and or Holter Monitor
  • Documentation:
  • Accurately documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department expectations
  • Enters all patient demographic information accurately
  • Downloads, edits and faxes Holter Monitor information in a timely manner
  • Assists as needed with various office responsibilities including physician billing, responding to phone inquiries and fax requests
  • Safety:
  • Follows isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand washing according to FH policy
  • Cleans equipment according to FH policies and procedures
  • Communication:
  • Communicates with patient and their family members according to their age and understanding
  • Explains procedures in a way that the receiver can understand
  • Completes all assignments and communicates pending items with the appropriate staff member
  • Openly receives instructions and guidance from fellow staff, supervisors and managers
  • Process Improvement:
  • Provides suggestions to improve department and hospital processes
  • Participate in process improvement projects
  • Professional Growth:
  • Provides goals on employee input form that lead to growth opportunities
  • Assists with clinical instructions and serves as a resource to less experienced employees and new personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the department
  • Stress Testing:
  • Assists with scheduling, room preparation, turn-around, and supply restocking
  • Transfers and attends to patients within department
  • Prior to cardiac stress testing, obtains baseline ECG and blood pressure
