Job Summary
 
Under direct supervision of the Managed Health Resources AVP, the Director of Managed Health Resources - Cost Accounting is responsible for directing and carrying out the continuing development and maintenance of Cost Accounting systems, ensuring the integrity of system data, and maximizing the value of the system to CHS.
 
The Director, Cost Accounting will work with a wide variety of clients, including CHS Executives, on projects and analyses of high complexity to support the CHS mission. The Director will initiate interaction with Information Systems, Cost Accounting system vendor, Finance, department Directors, Hospital Administration, and end users in the continuing system upkeep and development of system enhancements.

Essential Functions
 
Cost Accounting Management:
•    Establish the CHS Cost Accounting process including the over-arching assumptions and allocation methodologies
•    Oversee and approve the selection of source data streams to be used in support of cost accounting calculations
•    Oversee and approve the development and execution of the logic used to assign costs to the charge codes, including the methods used to allocate overhead and other costs not specifically driven by charge codes
•    Oversee and approve the methods used to assign costs to new charge codes prior to their integration into the full cost processes
•    Establish quality assurance processes to review and quantify the accuracy and completeness of the cost accounting system including detailed level review, high-level review following cost processing,    reconciliations with the General Ledger and definition of the tolerances for variances at each stage.  This includes cost amounts listed as actual invoice price paid for supplies and pharmaceuticals
•    Evaluate and make a business case as necessary to recommend cost accounting expansion opportunities that demonstrate ROI throughout CHS
•    Consult with users of cost accounting information, such as MHR, Department Leaders, SSG, Decision Support, etc. to clarify or validate their findings related to costs.
 
Physical Requirements
Performs most work under normal office conditions. Work may include sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, using repetitive wrist/arm motion or lifting articles up to 25 pounds.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelors Degree required, Advanced degree, MBA or MHA preferred.  Degree must be in accounting, finance, business or industrial engineering or must have comparable healthcare experience.  (Minimum of) 5 plus years of acute healthcare experience, preferably on both the financial and clinical and/or allied health sides of healthcare.  Prior successful experience managing professional staff in a dynamic environment is required.•   Prior experience as a Director in Cost Accounting or Healthcare Finance or as a healthcare controller required.
