Job Summary - Responsible for negotiating industry leading national agreements for the group purchasing organization in the area of Pharmacy. Objective is to create change in those markets impacted by assigned portfolio such that best-in-class industry pricing along with corresponding contract terms and conditions is achieved. The Pharmacy Strategic Sourcing Director collaborates as needed with Pharmacy Clinical Services peers to develop effective synergies between the department's clinical and contracting activities. The Director provides exceptional customer service to HealthTrust members by establishing appropriate expectations and ensuring the delivery of quality work in a timely fashion. The Director supports the Pharmacy Strategic Sourcing AVP in carrying out HealthTrust's Pharmacy Services mission by achieving assigned strategic goals and tactical objectives.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Strategic Sourcing:
    • Be accountable for the overall sourcing process as it relates to assigned portfolio including market research, bid preparation, RFI, strategy development and validation, RFP, negotiations, and contract award
    • Understand pharmacy product/service features and benefits within assigned contract portfolio
    • Understand and oversee effective communication of award decision outcomes and any such potential operational impact to HealthTrust members
    • Maintain timely achievement of all assigned sourcing initiatives ensuring activities adhere to all established policies and procedures and written standards of business conduct
    • Meet or exceed all assigned operational goals and tactical objectives
  • Contract Portfolio:
    • Remain current on future product pipelines and assess potential impact on assigned portfolio
    • Understand cost drivers (direct and indirect) that may impact the portfolio including API/raw materials issues, FDA reports, SEC filings, annual reports, or other various analyst reports that may impact portfolio
    • Investigate new supplier entrants to the market
    • Meet or exceed financial goals established in the annual contracting plan for assigned portfolio
  • Supplier/Vendor Relationships:
    • Foster strategic working relationships with key market suppliers and portfolio vendors
    • Be able to make appropriate product comparisons between various supplier/vendor offerings
    • Oversee supplier/vendor communications and relationships during the sourcing process
    • Participate in vendor business reviews and review of new products/services as they arise in assigned categories
  • Collaboration and Communications:
    • Work closely with member IDN leads (healthcare operators, pharmacy leads, clinicians, physicians, and executives) to develop potential contract strategy recommendations and articulate those steps required to achieve prescribed negotiation objectives
    • Facilitate discussions with various internal functional teams during a project kick-off for the purpose of gathering feedback and such that resources are aligned to meet contracting initiative timelines
    • Effectively communicate project/negotiation status and results to various audiences including but not limited to clinical operations, advisory board leads, legal, financial operations, account management, and management
    • Present contract strategies and report outcomes to various stakeholders including management, senior executives and advisory board leads
  • Customer Service:
    • Maintain strong customer relationships, build trust and respect by consistently meeting or exceeding member expectations
    • Preemptively identify potential customer service risks and deploy approved preventives/mitigations
    • Quickly and efficiently resolve identified vendor and/or customer issues
    • Support as needed other department leaders and HealthTrust executives in their efforts to carry out with excellence the HealthTrust mission

Accredited College Bachelor's Degree required, Pharmacy degree or master's degree in a business or healthcare discipline is preferred.

3 plus years of relevant work experience. Ideal candidate will have experience in strategic sourcing and negotiating a variety of contracts in Pharmacy or the Pharmaceutical Industry.
