We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Regional Employee Relations Specialist position that will be based in our Human Resources Shared Services department. This position is based at our offices in both Killeen & San Marcos, Texas. Weekly travel will be required between the two locations.

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the employee relations function for assigned facilities. Administration includes consultation on employee relations issues for employees and leadership and facilitation of initiatives to foster a positive employee relations environment that aligns with the mission and values of Adventist Health System. This individual is responsible for local employee relations investigations and reporting, identifying and recommending solutions, and providing ongoing documentation as appropriate.

Specific job duties include:

  • Helps to maintain a positive employee relations climate by proactively providing guidance to managers and responding to employee inquiries
  • Works collaboratively with employees and departmental leadership in carrying out their responsibilities on employee relations matters
  • Participates in the investigation and resolution of ongoing employee relations problems, such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee appeals and grievances;
  • Responds effectively to employee relations queries
  • Recognizes patterns and anticipates employee-related issues; Develops, recommends, and initiates appropriate steps for resolution in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental leaders and employees; Helps employees and departmental leadership settle work-related conflicts through advice and guidance
  • Supports the Employee Relations Manager and Legal in conducting employee relations investigations
  • Identifies and recommends solutions when repetition of individual problems indicate negative trends, including disciplinary and commendatory actions
  • Documents all employee relations matters as appropriate for the situation and in accordance with legal compliance and organizational policies and procedures
  • Identifies and recommends retention strategies;
  • Implements retention strategies and positive employee relations initiatives as designated
  • Consults with Employee Relations department and Employee Relations Manager on employee relations issues as needed
  • Participates in the development and delivery of training; Assists in communication of policies and procedures
  • Stays current on employment law, as well as employment trends; Proactively researches information to ensure compliance, provide appropriate consultation, and avoid/eliminate exposure to the organization


Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of Employee Relations experience required with an Associate degree or 3 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, including conducting investigations
  • Proficient knowledge in employment regulations such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc. required

Education Requirements:
  • Minimum of Associate degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Degrees will preferably be in Business, Human Resources, or relevant field

Technical Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Human Capital Management (HCM) experience, especially PeopleSoft, preferred

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation or equivalent preferred

  • Willingness to travel weekly between the two locations in Killeen and San Marcos, TX.
