Job Description

Role Summary: Supports department by providing care to patients requiring all types of respiratory support including critical, emergency, general therapy, and infant transport. Supports organizational improvement by teaching and participating in the management of resources for patient care.

Essential Accountabilities:

1. Supports department by providing critical and general floor respiratory care.

Performance Criteria:

1. Takes initiative by accepting and completing assignments .

2. Practices good record keeping by documenting all respiratory procedures in the medical record.

Performance Criteria:

1. Practices ITP (Intermittent Therapy Protocol) required documentation by using approved flow sheet, with 95% accuracy.

2. Practices required documentation by utilizing and completing approved form every 4 hours and PRN for Ventilators, NPPV, Trach Collars, Vapotherms, and Infant Flows.

3. Follows department policy by documenting patient education and care plan on the appropriate form.

3. Demonstrates technical ability by mastering appropriate computer programs.

Performance Criteria:

1. Shows ability to utilize Cerner program by correctly entering, changing or discontinuing clinical orders.

2. Demonstrates computer ability by accurately completing charges by end of shift.

3. Demonstrates ability to use e-mail program by opening, reading, and sending e-mail correspondence.

4. Supports department by maintaining clinical competency.

Performance Criteria:

1. Follows department guidelines by completing all required annual clinical competencies.

2. Shows required attendance by participating in 75% of departmental in-services.

5. Practices good teamwork by supporting self, coworkers, and department .

Performance Criteria :

1. Shows leadership by attending a required 50% of departmental staff meetings, and practicing


100% of all departmental staff meeting communications. (ie. watch video and communication book).

2. Shows ability to problem solve by identifying and/or offering suggestions to help improve shift or department function.

3. Completes 2-3 professional development goals by identifying them early on and working toward their accomplishment.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

Required Education : Associates Degree in Respiratory Care OR Completion of Respiratory Care Program Accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)

Preferred Education: Associates Degree in Respiratory Care OR Completion of Respiratory Care Program Accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and 20 years of experience

Required License : Registered by NBRC; a current North Carolina License issued by North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) and a current BCLS.

Preferred License: ACLS, PALS, NRP (Pediatric-Perinatal Specialty)

Required Experience : None

Preferred Experience: 2 Years Critical Care

Working Conditions: Attached

OSHA Category: Potential for exposure to blood or body fluids.

Patient Care Group: Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and the dying patient.
