PPSAT is hiring Certified Medical Assistants with excellent customer service and communication skills to work in our Asheville, NC health center. Previous health care experience required. These are full-timeopportunities working 35 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday. Some evenings required as well. Essential Functions Answer telephones and greet patients. Schedule appointments as needed and arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services. Update medical records and complete required forms. Perform all other administrative duties as directed. Assists Health Center Manager (HCM) with taking monthly inventory, ordering monthly supplies, and checking supply expiration dates. Performs monthly QM-82 checklist. Complete Cash Discrepancy Reports as applicable. Interpret insurance tasks and verification screens to communicate detailed information to patient in a concise manner. Perform insurance verifications as needed. Run EPM and EHR reports and audits as assigned by HCM. Assist in assigned special projects from HCM, or other affiliate management staff. Partner with Health Center Assistants (HCAs) to ensure efficient and compliant clinic operations. Assist HCM in ensuring staff are compliant with required trainings. Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including taking medical histories, recording vital signs and performing intake. Explain treatment procedures to patients and prepare patients for examinations and procedures. Assist Clinician during examinations and procedures. Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the Clinician. Take electrocardiograms (EKGs). Remove sutures/staples. Change sterile and non-sterile dressings. Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the Clinician. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests on premises. Draw blood. Dispose of contaminated supplies. Sterilize medical instruments. Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record. Prepare patients for ultrasounds, exams, tests and procedures. Perform ultrasounds, patient education, and lab services as requested. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician/clinician when allowed by State regulations. Authorize drug refills as directed and telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy. Contribute to a positive work environment by following through on tasks, taking initiative, working with the team and identifying solutions. Adhere to affiliate policies and procedures including meetings and training requirements, ensuring punctuality and attendance, and following personnel policies. In addition to the above duties, employee must independently perform the following if working or scheduled to work at an abortion site: Perform and interpret in-house laboratory tests necessary for appropriate intake of abortion patients, including hemoglobin and Rh Factor testing. Prepare patients for and assist physician providers with abortion procedures. Able to prepare, identify, and properly dispose of POC. Process medical instruments per PPSAT Infection Prevention Manual guidelines. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Minimum high school diploma or GED. Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Certification from American Medical Technologists. Completion of all required organization’s mandated training. Customer service experience, preferably in the medical field. Must be able to prioritize, multitask, and demonstrate use of effective communication and organizational skills. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds. Must be able to read, comprehend, input, retrieve and analyze data daily. Preferred Requirements: Bilingual in English and Spanish Experience in primary care/family medicine preferred. Experience in women’s health/reproductive health preferred.
