About TABS A growing 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Asheville, NC, TABS serves roughly 250 university-prep boarding schools in the United States, Canada, and globally. The Association leads a domestic and international effort to promote awareness and understanding of boarding schools and to expand the applicant pool for member institutions. For more information about the association, visit www.TABS.org Position Description JOB TITLE: Controller DEPARTMENT: TABS Administration REPORTS TO: VP, Finance & Operations STATUS: Part-Time Non-Exempt; Hourly Purpose Statement : The Controller will be responsible for central day-to-day accounting functions for TABS financial operations through supporting each of the programs and initiatives. This position supports TABS financial operations through conducting reconciliations, journal entries, preparing monthly reports, participating in accounting cycle closings and preparing/assisting in development of compilation reports. Scope : This position supports the financial operations of TABS and works with each of the departments. Specific Responsibilities: Reporting Assist in the preparation of timely and complete financial statements Assist in the preparation of the annual report and supporting statements Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and production of forecasts Provide monthly financial reports to management and senior team members Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management Provide financial analysis as needed Transactions Reconcile merchant service accounts with bank accounts on a weekly basis. Reconcile bank statements on a monthly basis. Maintain proper controls over accounting transactions. Ensure all accounts receivable are handled timely and correctly. Record and maintain journal entries for all TABS accounts. Maintain the chart of accounts Maintain an orderly accounting records keeping system Compliance Assist in the provision of information to external auditors for the annual consolidated audit Comply with and prepare local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings Qualifications/Skills: 3-5 years experience as a controller or similar position CPA licensure, highly preferred Insurance Experience is a plus College degree required. Master’s preferred Non-profit experience desired Uncompromising integrity and professionalism. Detail oriented – proofreading and fact checking on a tight deadline Excellent organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills for relating effectively with others. Excellent computer skills in a primarily Mac-based environment. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particular Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Database experience and familiarity with Quickbooks and working knowledge of advanced accounting systems Flexible with good time management skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time. Ability to be trusted with confidential information. Ability to prioritize. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Flexible Scheduling) This position is a part-time position; This position is required to maintain and submit accurate timesheets for recording in the payroll system.
