Job Description
Department: Mission Outpatient Neurology
Reports To: Practice Manager
Supervises: None
FLSA Status: Non-exempt



Role Summary: Work as member of strong team supporting outpatient Neurology practice. High volume phone contact as liaison between Neurologists and patients. Provide patient education, especially in regard to pharmaceuticals and insurance and support business goals of practice.

Essential Accountabilities:

1. Supports department by providing patient care

Performance Criteria:
1. Ensure accurate and timely telephone communication to patients, referring providers, and disability services.
2. Triage work in an organized manner according to patient and third party need.
3. Make complete and accurate entries in patient record.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of pharmaceuticals, disease, and common side effects appropriate to the population served.
5. Administers medication and or gives injections and performs tests as directed by physician.

2. Participate in ongoing assessment process

Performance Criteria:
1. Review treatment plan with patients and as appropriate, with families.
2. Promotes efficiency by taking vitals, reconciling medications and putting patients in exam rooms in a timely manner.
3. Provide patient and family teaching in culturally appropriate manner

3. Collaborate with patients, colleagues and interdisciplinary team members to achieve desired outcomes.

Performance Criteria:
1. Serve as advocate for patients and families.
2. Prepare documentation for physician completion/signature per provider preference.
3. Assist in maintenance of charts.

4. Participate as a member of care team to achieve business goals and quality outcomes.

Performance Criteria:
1. Conduct monthly chart audits entering into VERGE by the 10th of each month.
2. Participate in analysis of collected data by recognizing relationships regarding process and outcome.
3. Stay current with department activities, services and patient care issues.

5. Assists department by providing clerical support.

Performance Criteria:
1. Assists in maintenance of charts.
2. Transmits physician’s orders to appropriate staff and departments.
3. Enters accurate documentation tin practice management and hospital software.
4. Completes insurance forms, disability forms, calls in prescriptions and makes appointments with other medical specialists on behalf of the patient.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

Required Education: Graduate of accredited LPN program or Clinical Medical Assisting Program

Preferred Education: Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree

Required License: NC LPN license or NC Certification as CMA, BCLS.

Preferred License: None

Required Experience: Two years post graduation as LPN or CMA with working knowledge of triage procedures and documentation. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must genuinely enjoy patient education. Ability to maintain consistent pleasant disposition (MERIT) regardless of interruptions is essential.

Preferred Experience: Two years in out patient setting. Prior experience in Neurology practice.
