This position will be responsible for sales and use tax planning with a focus on Business Development and Construction projects, tracking state law changes, assisting in planning and writing tax legislation, and assisting with audit research and defense. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, providing support to major project planning and construction groups for economic evaluation and tax compliance purposes, executing projects as requested by management, and will require extensive knowledge of sales and use tax law as well as strong research skills for determining taxability in all states.
Coordinate and control state sales & use tax as it applies to Business Development and Construction projects.
* Communicate directly with business development and project planning groups to assist in determining the economic impact of sales and use taxes on project planning and construction.
* Determine if specific exemptions apply to particular projects and if special exemptions are available and possibly apply.
* Determine what licenses applications, or exemption applications, need to be filed once projects are approved as well as determining if there are other tax saving or planning opportunities.
* Research and provide written guidance of state sales tax exemptions and requirements to project planners, buyers, accountants, etc.
* Provide assistance in writing tax language for equipment purchasing and EPC type construction contracts in all states.
Provide assistance and support of state sales & use tax audits.
* Develop technical and factual support to assist in sales & use tax audits. Involves working with auditors, outside consultants, and tax management.
* Work with IT in order to develop best practice processes for providing data to support audits for all entities.
* Research audit issues and develop tax strategies for defending audit positions.
* Review proposed and final settlement documents for accuracy and completeness.
Provide support for tax litigation.
* Develop factual documentation, analytical calculations and schedules to support tax litigation. Includes working with internal/external attorneys, outside consultants, and internal personnel to develop case position.
Monitor sate tax rulings, cases, legislation and periodicals that impact the company in order to maintain a tax awareness and ability to identify potential tax issues, tax exposures, tax compliance problem areas, tax planning and savings opportunities.
* Identify and support potential issues before they develop to help mitigate audit exposures.
* Assists in state tax planning and research as needed to minimize sales & use tax and develop tax savings ideas.
* Identify legislation that materially impacts Duke companies and bring to management's attention.

Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
* 6 to 8 years of direct related Sales & Use tax experience
* Computer literate

* Working knowledge of tax and accounting software technologies
* Ability to multi-task

* Research, understand, and stay up-to-date on the latest search engine algorithms, rules, techniques and trends
Support other e-mail and online marketing initiatives for eChannels team:
* Help develop, code and deploy emails for all customer segments
* Understanding of how to use email marketing campaign tool
* Perform e-mail campaign analysis and provide reporting to internal clients

Basic Qualifications:
* A minimum of 4 years of full-time SEM/SEO experience for a medium to large size company or agency.
