Unix Programming Jobs 
If you are planning a career in IT, one of the areas that you could beinterested in is systems programming, specifically UNIX programming -that is, writing and maintaining programs that allow the different parts of complex computer installations to work well together.
This is highly technical programming, and demands understanding of the different hardware and software technologies that come together to make a system work. Much of this co-ordination is executed by the operating system, and in a complex installation, the usual operating system to be used is UNIX.
UNIX Programming Experts Know the System
UNIX programming requires you to understand the underlyingprinciples behind each part of a system - the differing functions ofthe hardware, the networking systems and in some cases the differentapplications that are on the system, particularly if these applications are database based.
UNIX is a very flexible operating system with a particular facility to allow complex networking and to allow different platforms to work together, but in order to work well in a complex installation, much of this has to be tailor made for specific situations, and this would be your function as a UNIX programmer. |
