Getting Started

Is there a cost for me to find a job on LOCALJOBS?
There is no cost to use LOCALJOBS as a job seeker - it's FREE! Simply register (click the NEW USER link at the top of the HOME page) and you are good to go. There is never a fee for posting your resume or searching for jobs. Top

I don't have a resume yet; can I make one on LOCALJOBS?
Yes. Our ResumeMaker will walk you step by step through the online resume creation process. There are about 5 easy steps in the process, guiding you from the creation of your title and objective, to work experience, to education and references. If you already have a resume, you can either import or copy/paste your existing resume in LOCALJOBS. It’s that easy!

If you don’t know how to design a resume that “gets your foot in the door”, then LOCALJOBS is just the site for you. Our award winning technology includes samples of thousands of job occupation resumes, each with sample “objectives”, “work experience” and “accomplishment” phrases that will help you build a top quality resume with ease. Many companies charge hundreds of dollars for access to this type of information, but on LOCALJOBS – it’s yours to use for FREE. Top

I already have my resume - why do I need to input it again on LOCALJOBS?
While this may seem redundant, each employment website usually requires you to do this. It is the only way of getting your resume into the LOCALJOBS database that recruiters check regularly for job applicants. Consider it one of the necessary tasks in your job-hunting campaign. The good news is it shouldn’t take you more than 5-15 minutes to get this done – depending on your comfort level of working with computers. Top

How long will my resume be live on LOCALJOBS?
Your resume will be live for 90 days from the date of your last login to your account. If you don’t visit LOCALJOBS for 60 days, we will send you a reminder notice that your resume will be deactivated if you don’t visit within 30 more days. At which point (the 90 day mark) your resume will then automatically be deactivated (not deleted). We do this because employers & recruiters hate to find the perfect candidate only to find out that they are no longer looking for a job. If you visit the site after your resume was deactivated, it will immediately become activated again for another 90-day cycle. Top

Is there a way to 'hide' my resume from my current employer?
Yes. During the resume creation process, you have the option to mark a resume as private. Employers will not see your resume in search results, but you will still be able to apply to specific jobs using this resume, at which point those specific employers will be able to view your resume and contact information. Top

Can more than one job seeker account be set up under my e-mail address?
No. Each job seeker account must have a unique e-mail address. If you need another e-mail address account, you can get a free e-mail account at Netscape. Top

Features and Usage

How do I apply for a job that I see listed?
If you already have an account, then be sure to login before searching for jobs. Once you see a job you like, you can click the VIEW/APPLY icon below each job you may see listed. When you do this, you then have the ability to either attach a resume you have on your PC’s local hard drive or you can choose from one of the resumes you’ve created and stored on LOCALJOBS. Additionally, you may also create a cover letter on the fly, or select from a saved letter you’ve created and stored earlier on LOCALJOBS. The resume and cover letter are then sent direct to the employer/recruiter by LOCALJOBS. Top

What is the 'Job Alert' feature and how does it work?
This feature of LOCALJOBS is a powerful tool in that it enables you to create and then save your job search profile (actually you can save multiple profiles). When an employer posts a position that meets your saved profile(s) - LOCALJOBS will send you an e-mail notification informing you that there has been a job(s) posted that meets your criteria. With the Job Alert tool, you don't need to go online everyday to hunt - you'll be notified via your e-mail; thereby, saving you a significant amount of time and energy. Top

Why don't I see jobs in my field?
The search capabilities are quite powerful in LOCALJOBS. Using a combination of search fields, you can find one out of a million jobs. The reality is that new job seekers sometimes put in so many criteria that they narrow down the search to such an extent that nothing may show up. Your best bet is to just start off with a search by “job location” and 'job category' first, i.e. search on your “Location” and 'Accounting' or 'Marketing', etc. If too many listings show up, THEN begin to use the keyword search phrase aspect and other selection fields to narrow the outcome. If you ever need assistance with these, you can always click the LIVE HELP on most web pages. Top

I see jobs listed in other cities…but none in mine. Why not?
LOCALJOBS is in a growth mode; however, we are not yet located in every market in the country. Our growth currently is in the Southeast portion of the country. But, we will get to your area soon. Top
